Entra ID security hardening at a glance

After an account compromise, before a cyber insurance renewal or audit, or when the tenant was set up years ago without a security baseline.

Delivery model

Fixed-scope assessment and remediation project. Entra ID P1 minimum; P2 for risk-based policies.

What is Entra ID security hardening?

Entra ID security hardening is the process of configuring Microsoft Entra ID to reduce the risk of identity attacks such as password spraying, MFA fatigue, adversary-in-the-middle phishing and token theft. It covers authentication, Conditional Access, privileged roles, applications, guest access and monitoring, measured against Microsoft guidance and Microsoft Secure Score.

What our hardening service includes

  • Tenant security assessment – review of authentication methods, Conditional Access, roles, apps, guests and logging.
  • Strong authentication – phishing-resistant MFA and Conditional Access policies.
  • Block legacy authentication and risky sign-in paths.
  • Privileged roles – remove standing Global Admins, protect break-glass accounts and deploy PIM.
  • Application governance – review OAuth consents, app registrations and service principals.
  • Guest and external access – restrict and review external collaboration.
  • Identity Protection – user and sign-in risk policies (Entra ID P2).
  • Monitoring – sign-in and audit logs forwarded to Microsoft Sentinel or Defender XDR.

Our process

  1. Assess – configuration review and Secure Score baseline.
  2. Prioritise – fixes ranked by risk and user impact.
  3. Remediate – changes made in report-only mode first, then enforced.
  4. Document – a written identity security baseline.
  5. Hand over – runbooks for your team, or ongoing management by Skytech.

Entra ID security FAQs

Common questions about securing Microsoft Entra ID.

Microsoft renamed Azure Active Directory to Microsoft Entra ID in 2023. The service and its security features are the same.

Entra ID P1, included in Microsoft 365 Business Premium and E3, covers Conditional Access. Entra ID P2, included in E5, adds Identity Protection risk policies and Privileged Identity Management.

Security defaults provide basic MFA protection for tenants without Conditional Access. Most businesses outgrow them and need custom Conditional Access policies with exclusions and device conditions.

We stage changes in report-only mode, analyse impact, and communicate with users before enforcement to avoid disruption.

Typically 2 to 6 weeks, depending on tenant size and the number of applications and policies involved.
