Azure OpenAI landing zone at a glance

Who this is for

CTOs, cloud architects and security teams taking AI applications into production on Azure.

When you need this

An AI pilot is moving to production, security has concerns about public endpoints and data handling, or several teams are building AI separately.

Delivery model

Design and deployment project using infrastructure as code, with documentation and handover.

What is an Azure OpenAI landing zone?

An Azure OpenAI landing zone is a pre-configured, secure Azure environment for running Azure OpenAI and Azure AI Foundry workloads. It extends standard Azure landing zone principles with AI-specific controls: private endpoints, identity-based access, API management, content filtering, logging, quota management and cost tracking.

Microsoft states that prompts and completions sent to Azure OpenAI are not used to train OpenAI or Microsoft foundation models. See the Microsoft data, privacy and security documentation for Azure OpenAI.

What we deploy

  • Network isolation – private endpoints, virtual networks and controlled outbound access.
  • Identity – Microsoft Entra ID and managed identities instead of API keys.
  • AI gateway – Azure API Management for authentication, rate limits, load balancing and usage tracking per team.
  • Content safety – Azure AI Content Safety filters and prompt shields.
  • Monitoring and logging – Azure Monitor, diagnostic logs and Microsoft Sentinel integration.
  • Governance – Azure Policy, tagging and cost management.
  • Region and data residency – deployments in your chosen region, subject to model availability.

Our process

  1. Assess use cases, data sensitivity and requirements.
  2. Design the reference architecture.
  3. Deploy with infrastructure as code.
  4. Validate security and performance.
  5. Hand over with runbooks.

Azure OpenAI landing zone FAQs

Common questions about running Azure OpenAI securely.

Microsoft states that prompts, completions and data you provide are not used to train OpenAI or Microsoft foundation models.

Yes. You can disable public network access and connect through private endpoints within your Azure virtual network.

It depends on your data residency requirements and which models are available in each region. US regions are available for US workloads; we confirm availability for your chosen models.

It centralizes authentication, rate limiting, load balancing across deployments and usage tracking per application or team.

Typically 3 to 6 weeks depending on existing Azure foundations.
