What is Copilot oversharing?
Oversharing happens when content is accessible to more people than intended: sites open to the whole organization, “anyone” links, broken permission inheritance or sensitive files in public Teams. Copilot does not change permissions, but it makes overshared content far easier to find. Remediation reduces access to what each person needs.

Does Copilot give users access to new data?
No. Copilot respects existing permissions. The risk is that it makes content users could already access, but never found, easy to surface.
What is SharePoint Advanced Management?
A set of SharePoint governance features, including data access governance reports, restricted access control and site lifecycle management, that help find and fix oversharing.
Can we block Copilot from certain sites?
Yes. Restricted content discovery can stop specific sites appearing in Copilot results while permissions are being fixed.
Do we need E5 for Copilot data security?
Not for everything. Permission clean-up and many SharePoint controls work with standard licences. Advanced Purview features such as DLP for Copilot and auto-labelling typically need E5 Compliance or add-ons.
