What is Conditional Access?

Conditional Access is the Microsoft Entra ID policy engine that decides whether to allow, block or challenge a sign-in based on signals such as user, group, application, device compliance, location and risk. It is the core of a Microsoft Zero Trust deployment.

Phishing-resistant MFA, such as passkeys, FIDO2 security keys, Windows Hello for Business and certificate-based authentication, cannot be relayed by adversary-in-the-middle phishing kits the way SMS codes and push approvals can. CISA recommends phishing-resistant MFA as the strongest option.

What our service includes

  • Policy design – a documented Conditional Access framework covering users, admins, guests, workload identities and break-glass accounts.
  • MFA for all users – with number matching and removal of weak methods.
  • Passwordless rollout – passkeys in Microsoft Authenticator, FIDO2 keys and Windows Hello for Business.
  • Device-based access – require compliant or hybrid-joined devices via Intune.
  • Risk-based policies – block or challenge risky sign-ins (Entra ID P2).
  • Legacy authentication blocking and location controls.
  • Token protection and session controls where supported.
  • User communication and helpdesk runbooks.

Our rollout process

  1. Assess current policies and sign-in logs.
  2. Design the policy framework and exclusions.
  3. Report-only mode to measure impact.
  4. Pilot with IT and champions.
  5. Enforce in phases with communication.
