What is Azure Virtual Desktop?
Azure Virtual Desktop (formerly Windows Virtual Desktop) is Microsoft’s cloud desktop and app virtualization service. Users connect from any device to Windows 10 or Windows 11 desktops and apps running in Azure, while data stays in the cloud rather than on the endpoint.
Azure Virtual Desktop or Windows 365: which should we choose?
Windows 365 is a fixed-price Cloud PC per user and is simplest for small fleets and predictable workloads. AVD is consumption-based, supports multi-session pooled desktops, GPU and custom images, and is more cost-effective at scale or for shift workers. We size both options during discovery.
How long does an AVD deployment take?
A standard environment for up to 200 users is typically live in 3 to 6 weeks, including landing zone, images, pilot and rollout. Complex application estates or Citrix replacements take longer and are phased by department.
Is AVD secure enough for contractors and BYOD?
Yes, when configured properly. We enforce MFA and Conditional Access, block clipboard and drive redirection where required, deploy Defender for Endpoint on session hosts and keep data inside Azure, so an unmanaged device never holds company files.
